An arrest warrant has been issued in the theft of Team Xtreme’s No. 44 NASCAR Sprint Cup car, which was stolen from a hotel parking lot Feb. 27.

Sgt. Larry Oglesby of the Morrow (Ga.) Police Department, told NASCAR Talk that the warrant was issued Friday. Oglesby said the warrant was for a person of interest in the case who declined to be interviewed by police. Oglesby said he’s talked to the person’s attorney.

A Ford pickup truck and trailer with the Sprint Cup car Travis Kvapil was to have driven at Atlanta Motor Speedway were taken in the early morning hours at the team’s hotel in Morrow, Ga.

A surveillance camera recorded a Jeep Cherokee pulling up in the hotel parking lot and a person exiting the passenger side of the vehicle. That person entered the Ford pickup and drove off with the trailer and the team’s car.

Team Xtreme withdrew from the Atlanta race. The team returned to competition at Las Vegas but failed to make Sunday’s race.

The stock car and pickup truck have been recovered. The pickup truck was discovered in Stockbridge, Ga., while the stock car was found in Loganville, Ga. The trailer remains missing. Among items not recovered include a spare race engine and various tools.

The team had sent its hauler to the track ahead of a storm that week while the crew worked on the car in the shop. When the work was completed, the car was delivered in the trailer that was stolen.
