In a Monday interview with Reuters, Patricia Driscoll was incredulous that no criminal charges were filed against NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, her former boyfriend of four years.
“I was stunned,” Driscoll told the news agency. “A judge found Kurt to have committed an act of abuse.
“What I find disappointing and upsetting is that Kurt is now trying to play the victim in saying he has been falsely accused.
“It was very clear in (Jones’) decision it wasn’t a ‘maybe’ that Kurt committed abuse. It was most definitely he did. He felt that Kurt’s testimony was not truthful.”
In a Supplemental Disposition, commissioner David Jones wrote it was “more likely than not” that Busch had committed abuse and said he found Driscoll’s testimony more credible.
Driscoll also criticized NASCAR’s decision to reinstate Busch after a three-week suspension that was based upon Jones’ original decision in the case. But after the Delaware Department of Justice declined to pursue criminal charges, NASCAR reinstated Busch, who agreed to terms set by the sanctioning body.
“NASCAR took a strong stand against domestic violence, suspending Kurt, which I thought was fantastic,” Driscoll said. “Then they announce he’s reinstated.
“He’s cured in three weeks. It sends a bad message. He got a three-week vacation.”
