Brian Scott, Michael Waltrip involved in first wreck of day at Talladega

It wasn’t the big one, but we’ve had our first significant contact in Sunday’s Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Xfinity Series regular Brian Scott appears to have lost control of his No. 33 Chevrolet on Lap 18 and began spinning.

Former Talladega winner Michael Waltrip was trailing Scott and unable to avoid contact.

As is typical at ‘Dega, the car that got collected -- Waltrip’s -- suffered the majority of the damage, with heavy front end and left side damage including what appeared to be a broken radiator.

Scott, who finished runner-up in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, suffered a blown engine that led to the wreck.

“Unfortunately, we blew an engine, no warning, temperatures were fine,” Scott told FOX. “I’ve got to apologize to the other team that we took out. Of course, the bad thing about Talladega is when something happens, other cars are all around you.

“Unfortunately, a short end to our day.”

Waltrip’s day, meanwhile, believes he will be back on track once repairs are made.

“I think so,” Waltrip said about getting back on-track. “We’ve got to put a new front end on it, but the team’s come so prepared. We have a nose and radiator all together. We’ll get back out there and race some.”

Waltrip eventually did get back on the track, 37 laps down from the leaders.
