For the second consecutive weekend, a fire erupted in a Richard Childress Racing team’s pit area during a service stop early in Sunday’s Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway.
In Sunday’s instance, Ryan Newman was getting tires and fuel on Lap 23 when flame appeared at the left rear of his car.
Officials quickly extinguished the fire and, unlike last weekend’s similar incident during the Xfinity Series race at Richmond that took part in Brendan Gaughan’s pit, no member of Newman’s team was injured.

Two members of Gaughan’s crew and a member of another team were injured at Richmond when it is believed a hot and loose lug not found its way into spilled fuel and ignited.
It appears that may be the same reason for Sunday’s mishap.
