Pole-sitter Jeff Gordon regained the lead on Lap 95, just in time to become the halfway leader of Sunday’s Geico 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway.
Gordon led 33 laps early on before falling back, with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson eventually taking over, leading 42 of the first 94 laps.
Running third at the midpoint of the race was Dale Earnhardt Jr., followed by Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards to round out the top five.
The race has already seen one “big one” multi-car wreck that involved 15 cars on Lap 47. An earlier wreck involved Brian Scott and Michael Waltrip.
Joey Logano, who won Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, was involved in the incident but is back on track, four laps down from the leaders.
