Kasey Kahne will drive for JR Motorsports in the May 16th Camping World Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Sprint Cup veteran Kasey Kahne will make his sixth career Camping World Truck Series start in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 15.

Kahne will drive the No. 00 Haas Automation Chevrolet, JR Motorsports general manager Kelley Earnhardt Miller announced in a media release.

It will be Kahne’s first start in a Trucks race since winning at Rockingham Speedway in 2012.

“I’m looking forward to running the truck race at Charlotte for JR Motorsports,” said Kahne. “They had a fast truck in the Martinsville race and have a great program going over there. Thanks to Kelley, Dale Jr. and Gene Haas for putting this deal together. I haven’t been in a truck race in a long time, but I always enjoy racing in that series.”

Kahne has a stellar record in Truck racing. In five starts to date, he’s won four times (twice at Darlington, once each at Homestead and Rockingham), and finished second the other time (Pocono). He has an average finish of 1.2 and has led 307 of 686 career laps in his five prior Truck starts.

“This opportunity to have Kasey in the truck will help the team evaluate our program on an intermediate track,” Earnhardt Miller said. “And Kasey’s stats in that series really speak to his talent.”

Kahne will fill in for 17-year-old Cole Custer, who is the primary driver in a 10-race schedule this season. Custer became the youngest race winner in NASCAR national touring series history when he won at Martinsville Speedway earlier this year.

“Getting Kasey behind the wheel of the No. 00 is going to be a true asset for the team and Cole,” said Earnhardt Miller. “With Cole’s age, he’s not eligible to compete on some of the bigger tracks, so we had to limit the schedule based on that fact.”

Custer returns to the No. 00 Truck on May 29 at Dover and is slated to make eight other starts in the remainder of the season.
