Richard Childress discusses Ty Dillon’s Sprint Cup future with RCR

It’s only the end of June but the career of Xfinity Series driver Ty Dillon following 2015 has questions surrounding it.

Dillon, the grandson of Richard Childress and the brother of Sprint Cup driver Austin Dillon, is in his second year in the Xfinity Series. A topic repeatedly asked of Childress, who owns both brother’s cars, is when Ty Dillon will move to the Sprint Cup Series full time.

Childress told SiriusXM NASCAR Sunday morning that if a full-time ride with RCR isn’t available, they would consider Dillon driving with another team.

“We’re going to wait and see a couple of months, anyway,” Childress told FoxSports.com. “We’re working on some things and we’ve got another team already put together -- the fourth (RCR) team -- and he may even someday ... it’s no telling where he’ll end up, because he’s got some people that’s been pretty interested in him, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Richard Childress Racing fields three full-time Cup teams with Austin Dillon (No. 3), Paul Menard (No. 27) and Ryan Newman (No. 31). Ty Dillon, who has one win in the Xfinity Series (Indianapolis Motor Speedway, 2014) has competed in four Cup races this season in the No. 33.

“Right now we’re working on, if the right sponsorship comes along, and we’re going to watch him a little more the rest of this year to see how he progresses,” Childress said. “I just don’t want to move either one of them too soon. And you’ve got to wait. When the opportunity’s there, you’ve got to take your opportunity.”
