Back at Daytona for first time since big wreck, Kyle Busch ‘looking forward to attacking that demon’

It’s been more than four months since Kyle Busch suffered the most devastating wreck of his NASCAR career.

It was on February 21, in the Xfinity Series season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway, that Busch lost control of his car and went head-on into an unprotected infield retaining wall.

Busch suffered a broken right leg and fractured left foot, but was back in a Sprint Cup race car three months later at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Now, Busch returns to Daytona for the first time since his traumatic wreck.

“Its going to be different than I’ve ever probably gone into that racetrack, no doubt,” Busch said. “I don’t know what that’s going to be yet.”

But one thing is for sure: the racetrack may have won that February day, but Busch is planning on getting revenge by winning Sunday night’s Coke Zero 400.

“I’m looking forward to it, looking forward to getting out there on the racetrack and attacking that demon, per se,” Busch said. “Just being able to get out there, get back in the draft, get back in the pack and just work myself to having a good race car for Sunday night. That’s going to be the thing.”

Plus, Busch is looking to make it two wins in a row, having won this past Sunday at Sonoma. He still has a long way to go to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup, but any additional wins will go a long way towards getting him into the Chase.

“That’s another opportunity for us to win a race,” Busch said. “Now it’s an opportunity for everybody. Everybody goes there thinking they’ve got a chance to win that race.

“… It’s certainly going to be a challenge, but you know, but let’s go get it.”
