Even though it’s a part-time team, the Wood Brothers’ No. 21 team is consistent, successfully qualifying for every Sprint Cup race it has entered since 2009.

That streak ended Saturday when NASCAR canceled qualifying for the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. The No. 21 driven by Ryan Blaney will not start the race.

NASCAR rules that the number of race attempts each team has made determines who makes the field after practice speeds. Cars making the most attempts are eligible to make the field before the ones that have run less. So far in 2015, the No. 21 team has raced in only six of 17 races.

“I really hate this for Motorcraft/Quick Lane and all of our guests,” team co-owner Eddie Wood said in a release. “We’ve been lucky. This is the first time this has happened since we started part time in 2009. We’ve dodged a lot of bullets, including last time in Michigan.

“This one got us, but if it has to happen, I’d rather it be for something we can’t control instead of for a lack of performance on our part.”
