In a Tuesday morning interview with Matt Lauer on the TODAY show, Austin Dillon recapped his terrifying crash at the end of the Coke Zero 400.

Dillon’s No. 3 Chevrolet went airborne into the frontstretch catchfence at Daytona International Speedway, ripping apart the cables and mesh and leaving five fans with minor injuries. Dillon emerged unscathed with a bruised tailbone and forearm.

“I was proud of the finish but didn’t want to be crossing the line in the air by no means,” Dillon said.

Dillon said he was traveling just under 200 mph before the wreck.

Dillon also addressed Richard Childress Racing teammate Ryan Newman’s comments about unsafe racing at Daytona and Talladega Superspeedway.
