Jeffrey Earnhardt, son of Kerry Earnhardt and grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt, will make his Sprint Cup Series debut Sept. 12 at Richmond International Raceway in the Federated Auto Parts 400.

Earnhardt, 26, made the announcement on NASCAR America that he would race the No. 32 Ford for Go Green Racing.

“I’ve spent the past few years around the Xfinity (Series) really learning all that I can and getting all the seat time I can,” Earnhardt said. “The biggest goals for me is to go out, be competitive, of course, that’s the only reason we do it, but also to learn as much as I can and finish all the laps that I can.”

The fourth-generation driver has made 76 starts in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series. His last race on either circuit was the June 13 Xfinity race at Michigan International Speedway.

The last time two Earnhardt family members competed in a Sprint Cup race was the October 2005 race at Talladega Superspeedway with Kerry and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Jeffrey Earnhardt also shared how much his uncle, Earnhardt Jr., helped him prepare for his Cup debut.

“He was a really big help when I got to participate in an Xfinity race in a JR Motorsports car two years ago, (Richmond 2013),” Earnhardt said. “He helped me actually learn how to get around Richmond.”

Earnhardt, who also has flirted with an MMA career, has one top 10 in his NASCAR career, a seventh in the 2011 Truck season opener at Daytona International Speedway.

The Sept. 12 race at Richmond is the regular-season finale before the start of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
