DARLINGTON, S.C. -- For all the talk about going back in time this weekend at Darlington Raceway, at least one thing is new. There are more SAFER barriers at the track.

Darlington Raceway has added 4,600 feet of the SAFER barrier in time for this weekend’s action, which culminates with the Southern 500 on Sunday night on NBC. The energy-absorbing barrier has been added to the outside walls along the frontstretch and backstretch. The track added the SAFER barrier in the corners in 2004.

The track now is ringed by SAFER barrier along the outside walls. SAFER barrier previously was added to the inside walls along the frontstretch and backstretch.
