Kyle Busch had successful surgery Wednesday afternoon on his fractured left foot, Joe Gibbs Racing announced Wednesday evening.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson of OrthoCarolina. Busch will remain hospitalized for observation. He was transported to a Charlotte, N.C., hospital Tuesday. Busch spent three nights in a Daytona Beach, Fla., hospital after he was injured in last weekend’s Xfinity race at Daytona International Speedway. He had surgery on his right leg Saturday night.
Busch slammed head-on into a concrete wall, suffering a compound fracture of his lower right leg and a fractured left foot.
Daytona International Speedway officials have vowed to have SAFER barriers all around the track. The wall inside Turn 1 that Busch hit was not covered by a SAFER barrier.
No timetable has been set for Busch’s return. Joe Gibbs Racing announced that David Ragan would drive Busch’s No. 18 Toyota for the next several weeks, beginning with this weekend’s Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Erik Jones will drive for Busch in this weekend’s Xfinity race at Atlanta.
