HAMPTON, Ga. – There were no incidents Thursday on the first day of Sprint Cup testing at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but a driver’s vehicle was struck at the 1.5-mile oval.

Denny Hamlin’s motorhome was hit in the parking lot for NASCAR driver and owner motorhomes in the track infield. According to a photo tweeted by crew chief Rodney Childers, an SUV went through a fence and made contact with Hamlin’s bus.

Atlanta Motor Speedway president Ed Clark said it was an accident in which a vehicle rolled down a hill and through the fence.

A spokesman for Hamlin said the motorhome apparently sustained “cosmetic damage” and was being checked to see if its slide mechanism was working.

Danica Patrick, who was involved in multiple incidents last week at Daytona International Speedway, couldn’t resist taking a playful jab.
